SWEDISH WOOL

SWEDISH WOOL

The Swedish Wool project began in 2019 when we discovered that the wool byproduct from the local meat industry was going to waste. We partnered with another Swedish brand, Röjk, and a Swedish sheep farm in Kungsör to develop a fully traceable supply chain that put this valuable organic resource to use.

Over the years we’ve scaled up the project to involve more bands and stakeholders – helping Swedish wool become more widely available in the industry. Today, the Swedish Wool Initiative is an Axfoundation collaborative of 15 brands, pioneered by Filippa K.

In 2023, the Swedish Wool Initiative launched the first classification system for wool, paving the way for new innovation in the sustainable fashion and textile industry. The new standard simplifies the process of selling and purchasing high-quality Swedish wool, enabling brands to embrace Swedish wool as a circular and sustainable material. Stay tuned for the next edition of Filippa K Swedish wool launching in November – and sign up to find out as soon as it lands.

“Swedish wool has long been a part of our collections and we continue to see increased interest from our customers for sustainable materials. So far it has been difficult to buy the same wool quality from season to season. As a brand, we want to know exactly which wool we are getting in terms of length, thickness, color and lustre. The new classification system opens up completely new market opportunities.”

– Liisa Kessler, Creative Director at Filippa K
"We now have a unified language for all wool in Sweden! This greatly facilitates collaboration across the entire value chain, from sheep owners, shearers, and wool brokers to buyers at fashion, outdoor, and home furnishing brands. The classification system plays a crucial role in harnessing Swedish wool as a circular and sustainable material within the fashion and textile industry."
