FILIPPA K x Woolution: Creating the Future of Swedish Wool

As part of our longstanding work with Swedish wool, we are proud to be a partner of Woolution, a collaborative project that brings togethers industry, research, and innovators to build the industrial infrastructure for Swedish wool that’s scalable, circular, and resilient.

Every year, around 1,000 tons of wool are produced in Sweden, with over half discarded or destroyed. Woolution aims to build a functioning industrial system for Swedish wool, which can play an important role in lowering climate impact and establishing a traceable supply chain. The hub for Swedish wool will be in Sörforsa, just outside of Hudiksvall, a site with a long history of textile production. The facility will be based on shared infrastructure, clear quality requirements, and full digital traceability.

The project builds on the Swedish Wool Initiative, showcasing how Swedish wool can be used successfully in fashion, interiors, and technical fields. After strengthening quality standards and logistics, the focus now shifts from product showcases to building industrial infrastructure and scaling the system.

The project is led by Dalarna Science Park and funded by Net Zero Industry Impact Innovation, a joint innovation initiative by the Swedish Energy Agency, Formas and Vinnova. The project is also supported by Region Dalarna and Region Gävleborg.

We began our Swedish Wool initiative in 2019 when discovering that wool byproduct from the local meat industry was going to waste. We partnered with another Swedish brand, Röyk, and a Swedish sheep farm in Kungsör to develop a fully traceable supply chain that put this valuable resource to use.

Every year or so we launch a new edition of Swedish wool in our collections. So far, we’ve introduced six editions of the Swedish Wool Sweater and have expanded into new categories. In 2025, we debuted the Swedish Wool Jacket, with more outerwear to come in 2026.

The Swedish Wool Braided Sweater

For AW25, we introduced a new sweater knit in 100% Swedish wool and made in collaboration with fellow Swedish heritage brand, Klippan Yllefabrik and Västkustens Ullinsamling from Swedish farms. Here’s what the wool supply chain looks like:

  • Sourced at Klippan Yllefabrik and Västkustens Ullinsamling from Swedish farms
  • Washed at Thomas Chadwick & Sons, United Kingdom
  • Combed at George Ackroyd (2001), United Kingdom
  • Spun at Vernitas, Lithuania
  • Knit at Trico Point, Romania
  • Sent to FILIPPA K stores and warehouses

The Swedish Wool Braided Sweater is designed with an oversized fit with wide sleeves and has a traditional rustic hand-feel that’s signature of the Fine Dorset sheep breed.

The Swedish Wool Jacket

For the first time since the project began, we’re introducing a jacket made using Swedish wool. The new piece is crafted from undyed yarn from Gotland sheep at Görvälns Gård and Hagby Gård, outside of Stockholm. It’s also traceable from farm to finish, with support from our trusted European supplier partnerships. Here’s what the wool supply chain looks like:

  • Sourced from Görvälns Gård and Hagby Gård
  • Washed at Ullkontoret on Gotland
  • Combed and spun at Manifattura Tessile Toscana (MTT) in Italy, where the fabric is created by knitting and boiling
  • Sewn and finished in Lithuania through Saunus Pasirinkimas
  • Sent to FILIPPA K stores and warehouses

The Swedish Wool Jacket is finished with a fluffy texture, and its design takes inspiration from one of our most popular styles: the Dafina Jacket. It has a loose, slightly boxy fit with wide shapes sleeves, perfect for wearing on colder days with your favourite jeans or a pair of tailored trousers.

The Swedish Wool Classification System

In 2023, the Swedish Wool Initiative launched the first classification system for wool, paving the way for new innovation in the sustainable fashion and textile industry. The new standard simplifies the process of selling and purchasing high-quality Swedish wool, enabling brands to embrace Swedish wool as a circular and sustainable material.

“The Swedish Wool Project has been close to our hearts at FILIPPA K since we first discovered the opportunity for turning waste into a resource. We’re proud to see the way that Swedish wool has become more widely used in the industry and embraced by more brands, and hope that this growth continues."

– Marie Forssenius, CEO at Filippa K

"We now have a unified language for all wool in Sweden! This greatly facilitates collaboration across the entire value chain, from sheep owners, shearers, and wool brokers to buyers at fashion, outdoor, and home furnishing brands. The classification system plays a crucial role in harnessing Swedish wool as a circular and sustainable material within the fashion and textile industry."

In 2023, the Swedish Wool Initiative launched the first classification system for wool, paving the way for innovation in the sustainable fashion and textile industries. The new standard has since become a market commodity with different specified qualities, simplifying the buying and selling processes for both farmers and customers and enabling them to embrace Swedish wool.
