GUNNARSHULT NORRBY, SMÅLAND, SWEDEN
Gunnarshult Norrby is one of three Swedish farms that provide the wool for our sweaters. Situated in the Småland highlands, it has been in Johan’s family for five generations. Johan has run the farm with his wife Tonita since 1999, with forestry and sheep farming as the main activities. Johan is also a beekeeper and produces honey for the local market.
“When you buy Swedish wool you know that animal welfare has been in focus. I think that makes the Swedish wool unique. I am proud of my sheep and happy that the renewable wool, which is sheared twice a year for the benefit of the animal, can be used for making clothes. The reason for me to keep sheep is very much about biodiversity and keeping the landscape open.”
“We are glad to be able to collaborate with Ullkontoret on Gotland, the only large scale wool scouring mill in Sweden. It can be difficult to find partners who can collect and pay for the wool locally. They collect our wool and do the scouring, the first step when further processing of the wool to a sweater.”
In addition to Johan Löwhagen, Tomas Olsson at Norrby Gård in Kungsör has supplied wool for our sweaters since the beginning of the project. Johan Myr at Byssegårde in Gotland also joined our supply chain in 2020.
