“Structures”

a graphic design project

Young Swedish Graphic Designer Linda Olsson, who graduates from Berghs School of Communication shortly, has collaborated with Filippa K on the fashion project “Structures”. The project has resulted in a series of prints resembling structures and surfaces that are accompanied by poems that relate to the prints.

“The idea of conceptualising hard surfaces into a fashion project came out of my fascination with different structures and patterns. The presentation of “Structures” as a fashion project was born from working with graphic design at the Swedish fashion brand Filippa K, where I initiated the collaboration and got the idea for the project,” says Linda Olsson.

The concept consists of a collection of t-shirts and tanks with prints from photographs I took of four different hard surfaces. These prints were made by framing the patterns of Shale, Concrete, Ice and Bricks into different figures and shapes. I printed the garments by hand and each one has its own unique limited edition number.

This project is all about the interesting contradiction of soft moving garments and the hard structures of the prints. “Structures” also consists of a fashion photo shoot where another contradiction was created: the beauty and innocence of the models on a sunny day juxtaposed with raw industrial surroundings. Music made for the project mixes a sad but beautiful melody with noise and ambient textures.

In my project film I also hope to inspire persuasions of beauty and roughness side by side. The poems of “Structures” embody stories that can be told by looking at the hard surfaces, waking emotions and giving perspectives. Last but not least, I now hope you take your time, sense and embrace the structures and find your own meaning and interpretations – Linda Olsson.
