Mark Titchner-installation view: IT IS YOU, Arnolfini, Bristol
Javier Peres is the contemporary art dealer who runs exciting Peres Projects in Los Angeles and Berlin, but considering the global phenomenon he has become, it’s easy to say that what he and the artists he represents leave a mark on the art world in much greater spread than in those specific cities.
Mr. Peres has come to represent some of the most interesting contemporary artist today, names such as Terence Koh and Dash Snow exhibit their work through Peres Projects, however Mr. Peres also runs Asia Song Society (ASS) in New York together with mentioned Mr. Koh. At the compact Chinatown space the gallery holds secret opening receptions and runs unconventional art projects often with a certain tongue in cheek air and wink towards an industry inclined to take itself very seriously.
Mark Titchner is one of the artists that is represented through Peres Projects and someone we at Filippa K greatly admire. Mr. Titchners sculptural installations are often in mixed medias that combine old and new technologies – the outcome being thought provoking in commenting on conflicting ideologies and old fashion ideas. Whilst doing so without using cynicism Mr Titchners work allows for the viewer to reflect upon what has been described as ” our blind faith in science and our obedience to authority”. As Mr Titchner puts it himself his aim in his work is to expose “a dialogue about how you receive thought and ideas”.
Mr Titchner graduated from pop cultural green house Central Saint Martins College of Fashion and Art, London in 1995 and was one of the nominees for the prestigious Turner Prize in 2006.
